frugal/thoughtful me

I made this little guy that is sitting next to China for one of my friends daughters.  The pattern is here for it.   It didn’t turn out as intended, but I didn’t have pure mohair yarn to work with so in the end I think he is alright.  Her birthday party is tomorrow and she said she wanted a puppy so lets hope this works.   Yay for using up yarn stashes.

In other crochet news, I had made some makeup remover/toner pads for some friends and family for Christmas and they have turned out to be a great hit with people asking for more of them.  So I decided to make myself some to see how well they work, even though I don’t wear makeup, and I have to say they are lovely.

I am trying to cut down on the amount of paper and plastic that we are going through in this house(even though most is recycled).  I am going to try and make some washable paper towels and some washable swiffer dusters next week.  I have all the supplies already, now just to make my sewing machine do what I want it to.  Yay for saving the environment!!

contest entry

I made this piece for a jewelery contest on craftster. Actually it is my first contest entry with my crochet ever. If you like it or just like me please go vote for me…thanks!

In all honesty I am so nervous about putting my stuff out there.  I have panic attacks so easily already but have been trying to face some of my fears and public scrutiny is definitely one of them.

I heart drums

All crafting, blogging, shopping and other non-necessary activities are on hold until further notice….turns out I am a rockstar addict…and the drums are the best!!!  Just started drumming on medium…super hard but equally fun!

Brrrrrr

Yup, it’s cold here.  Once you add in the windchill it is below -40C.  If you get lucky enough to find someplace without wind it still around -35, so really cold.  There really isn’t anything to do, so I have been crafting lots.  That and hoping the food in the house lasts as long as possible so I don’t have to go anywhere.

Normally, when it is nice outside, I love to watch this mysterious flock of birds.  Sometimes there are only 20 of them, other times there are so many that they look like a grey cloud in the sky(1000’s).  They seem to soar all day long on the air currents and look like ribbons in the sky.  They are amazing to watch.  I have tried so many times to get a good picture of them, but they change directions and speeds so quickly it is quite hard.  This is my best yet.

Because they are so hard to catch a good picture of I have never known what kind of bird they are.  Today though, it seems they are grounded due to extreme cold and landed across the trees and wires down the block.  So although the picture is fuzzy, do to distance, I finally have an answer.  They are waxwings.

TBA

Well it sure is easy to loose track of time and forget to post anything.  I just let one day roll into days and over a week I guess.  At first nothing was happening…and then Peter was home for a few days.  We did lots of cleaning up around the house, but no good projects or anything.  We are trying to spend less money as well, so no good outings either.  Now he has been back to work for a bit and I just haven’t had anything to say.

I am going to take some pictures of the projects I have finished in the last little while and post them when I get a chance.

unproductive productiveness

Yesterday in my absolute boredom I managed to complete yet another crochet project, visit a new store(discount/closeout) in town and take the kids to the library.  The project turned out pretty well, the new store had a couple of bins of yarn all for $1 each and I found bill nye videos for this weeks brownie video.  All in all a pretty useless day turned out well.

Today is yet another day of the same.  Peter got called into work at 6 am (which annoys me to no end), so he is now gone indefinitely.  I did something to my neck while doing dishes this morning, so I can’t move my head(also seriously annoying and painful).   I am going to try crocheting something when cat goes for her nap…oh and watch some alias(I am watching the series again cause I like it and I can’t watch startrek while Peter is gone or he will be mad at me).

Oh here is yesterdays finished project…today I am attempting to crochet snails.

my new favorite place

Since I have nothing better to do today, I thought I should take a picture or two of the new and improved laundry/craft-room.  So here they are…now I just need to put in a heated floor, add some more hooks on the walls, replace the boxes with more totes, put trim around the new door, put in a TV so I can listen to movies while I work, and get a nanny so I can work uninterrupted.  Oh I should also get my head out of the clouds…but like I said I have nothing better to do today.

stealthy

I was thinking of going to the city for the day or something else just to get out of the house and away from the kids for awhile, but Peter got called in to work before 8 this morning, so I guess that is out.  Now it looks like I am sticking close to home, and probably crafting or something equally exciting.  Maybe I will finish the spare room today, and hope for a guest…Sue…to come and stay.  I sure am living the life.

I finished my first attempt at making my own pattern when I made this little ninja for Peter.  He loved it(mostly the little throwing stars), but I am not so sure.  It looks a little chunky to me, but it was fun experimenting.

bird-brain

I was kinda feeling a little blah the last few days, but am all better now.  Having accomplished so much around the house sure helped.  Peter and I managed to put a door on the huge laundry room and clean out all my craft stuff from the spare room.  Now I have a well organized craft-room in the the laundry room.  The door keeps the kids out(for the most part), and allows us to set up the spare room for guests…mainly my MIL.

I haven’t heard back from the jobs I applied for…which is good I think, I don’t really want to go back to work, just have less time at home, and I have plans for fixing that.  Guides has started back up, and so I have tonnes of stuff to do and plan.  But really nothing big going on, so I have been spending my time crafting and watching the birds in my window.  I love my birds, though feeding them costs lots.   I wouldn’t have it any other way, I would miss my chickadees too much.

Dreaming of spring…..

dsc02485.JPG

While I was taking down the Christmas tree I found the most unexpected little visitor.  Naturally I thought this was a sign of spring, but a quick glimpse outside cleared up that fantasy.  So I decided it was a good karma type of sign that I am not a horrible parent for taking down all our Christmas decorations much earlier than usual.

The kids love Christmas and everything that goes with it, but this year I had enough quite early.  I am leaving on the lights outside, cause I just like lights, but my house feels much bigger and cleaner without so much crap every where.

Back to my cute little buggy.  I hope he is alright, haven’t seen him around the house today.  Hopefully the cats didn’t catch him.  Just in case here is another shot of the cutie.
